Ben Morieson creates art from the unexpected. From a disused bus wash he creates a mechanical action painting that is also a monumental sculpture, from illicit burnouts he creates poetic drawings on asphelt – he draws the edges of the urban into our close consideration as art.
Ben Morieson completed a Batchelor of Fine Art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1988, he then travelled through South America, Africa and Western Europe over the course of two years. He has since held numerous solo exhibitions and group shows. Morieson has been awarded the Australia Council residency in Barcelona and participated in the Echigo Tsumari Triennial in Japan with the support of Asialink. Morieson has been the recipient of grants from Arts Victoria and the Australia Council for the Arts. His work has been exhibited in China, Japan, Germany, Britain and New Zealand.
